Branches of Roman Republic Government


Homework:

Complete the CNN Student News Review for Tuesday of Week 1.  The entire recap will be due this Friday evening.

Classwork:

We will begin our class with the CNN Student News.  

We'll review the Roman Republic timeline in class together.  

Next, you'll watch the BrainPop video entitled "Roman Republic."  Here's how you get to the video:
  1. Go to your Google Drive.
  2. Click the 9 squares in the upper-right hand corner.
  3. Scroll down until you come to BrainPop.
  4. Click BrainPop.
  5. Click Social Studies.
  6. Click World History.
  7. Scroll down to Roman Republic.
  8. Click Roman Republic, and 
  9. Watch the video (a total of FOUR times)
Watch the video in its entirety one full time before filling out any of the T-Chart.  Next, go to Google Classroom for social studies.  The T-Chart is an assignment found there.  Fill out the three-column sheet about the different parts of the Roman Republic.

You will want to watch the video a total of FOUR times.  The first will be to understand what it's talking about (We'll do this together).  The second time, fill out the column about the Senate.  The third time, fill out the column entitled "Assembly."  The fourth time, complete the column entitled "Consuls."  In order to get full credit, you must give three pieces of information about each branch of government.

Rise of the Roman Republic

Afterwards, we will begin by reviewing the Roman Republic.  We'll read pages 11 and 12 in our textbook.

This will lead us to an activity.  You'll work in pairs to organize the events of the rise of the Roman Republic into a timeline.

Primary and Secondary Sources

Classwork:

As you are working to become a knowledgeable grown up and citizen of the world, it is important that you keep on top of current events.  We will invest 10 minutes of our class time every day to help you keep informed on the goings on in the world.  Today will be the first time we watch CNN student news in class.  Afterwards, I will show you how to complete the Student News Google Doc.  This week, we will complete this in class.  Starting next week, you will complete the document for homework.

Today, we will use our social studies textbook to understand primary and secondary sources.

Before we begin your studies of ancient Rome, it's important to remember all of the different aspects that go into studying history.

The following aspects all apply:

  • trustworthiness
